Figuring out your color season is a thing this year in my Get Your Pretty On style group. The 2021 Annual Membership came with some resources to explore what my personal Color Season might be.
As I worked through the materials, I struggled with Bright Winter vs Bright Spring. So, the next day, I spent my coffee time considering my color analysis and photos taken of myself in this last year. (Even though I haven't blogged in the last two years, I'm still sewing, testing and sharing regularly in my FB groups.) I have come to the conclusion that I am a Bright Spring, but that I can pull a bit from Bright Winter, depending on the color/combination. I never thought that I had a warm skin tone, I feel pale and pink. But the evidence is below and it appears that I usually look better in a warmer, brighter color! Go figure!
My Style Of Draping: SELFIES!
These seem to be my best colors. Bright and saturated, neither too dark nor too light.

Both of these black tops are made with the same fabric. One is styled cool, the other styled warm. I feel like I look good in both, but maybe the warm a little more.

Cool burgundy (Winter) vs Warm burgundy (Spring). I never really thought about warm or cool burgundy. Again, I feel like I can wear them both, but something about the warm pictures feels different.

I feel like these are all cool. The blue does zero things for me, but I can wear both purples easily.

That winter green in the top right corner is a bit too dark for me, probably. I feel most comfortable in the green of the larger picture, but the lower right is probably more spring. It feels very conspicuous to me, but it was highly complimented in the GYPO group when I walked through these photos there.

Cream/ivory is not my friend. Like pale pink, it makes me look washed out and naked. I feel the cooler white & grey neutral is better this time around.

Clearly, "soft" is out. The first photo is awful. I look naked and feel BLAH. The second one is better, as there's a bit more contrast, but the third bright photo is far and away the best option.

Lipstick Test?
As my fellow fashionistas and I chatted about my photo analysis, a rumor was brought up that only a true Bright Spring can carry off bright orange lipstick... It may have been a specific color of lipstick... So, I pulled out the two most color-rich lipsticks I have. They are both the same kind. One is very orange, the other is very Burgundy. To be honest, I'm not comfortable wearing either of them in public. They are both so dramatic, and I'm normally a no make up girl.
I have, actually, worn the burgundy one once or twice out, and between the two that's the one I would have selected as my better color... until I saw them side by side!
These photos were taken at the same time, in the same lighting. While neither of them are complimentary... The consensus in the GYPO group was that they are too matte and I need more shine. You can see the pink is colder, makes the lines on my face more harsh.
This lovely bold pinky-coral lip gloss was recommended to me during my chats, so naturally, I wanted to give it a try.
And would you look at that? It's not too bold or overpowering at all. In fact, it looks pretty natural. Though I've decided to call myself a Bright Spring. I'm still going to wear whatever I want, but I think I will turn my eye to some bolder & brighter colors this year and see what happens.

This is so enlightening! Thanks for showing the various photographs of yourself in different colors. It really does make a difference, doesn't it? You have inspired me to do the same. My coloring is quite different from you (I lean more to Autumn), but the process should be the same. Love all of your Itch to Stitch makes!
