Today, I am sharing my first "Official" Simply By Ti Fabric Ambassador project!
The Event:
Bridal Brunch for my soon-to-be sister-in-law.
The Patterns:
Nottingham Top and Lindy Petal Skirt, both from Itch-To-Stitch Designs.
I've sewn the free Lindy Petal Skirt a few times over the last couple years, refining the fit and length to be just right for me. This is a really quick and easy project that looks great. It has an elastic waistband for comfort and the faux wrap, curved fronts make a perfect feminine detail which doesn't expose too much leg.
Nottingham Top is a really new addition to the ITS Shop. I made 3 versions during testing a few weeks ago, and blogged about them HERE. I was so inspired by the floral versions that came out during the test that I decided I needed to make one of my own.
The Fabric:
Black Denim Jegging and Ivory With Pink And Blue Flowers Double Brushed Poly, both from Simply By Ti Fabrics.
A denim jegging version of the Lindy Petal Skirt has been on my mind for a while now. I grabbed a few yards of the Simply By Ti fabric during the April Birthday Sale and immediately made a pair of leggings and a pair of yoga pants from it. I was thrilled to discover just enough left for me to eek out this pencil skirt with some creative pattern Tetris. The Black Denim Jegging fabric boasts some great stretch: 40% on the horizontal and 60% on the vertical. To maximize stretch, I cut the fabric on the cross grain. As you can see, this is a fabric you can live in! It's heavier than a jersey, but lighter than an interlock or ponte. It's not at all transparent, and does a good job of smoothing over my lumps and bumps. Plus, it's got great recovery. I can move around throughout my day like a normal person, and not have a saggy, stretched out garment before lunch.
One of my wardrobe goals this summer is to leave my comfort zone a little more often. This means more color and more print! With that in mind, this pretty Ivory With Pink and Blue Flowers DBP fabric was the perfect choice for my first SBT Ambassador project.
I rarely sew with white (or ivory) for a couple reasons. First, transparency. Certainly, sheer white fabric has a time and place, but for everyday t-shirts, I don't want the general public to see the tone of my flesh through my top. That's gross. Second, I'm a pale gal and I am often washed out by white and cream colors.
Clearly, this DBP is causing none of these issues for me! There are no bra shadows and no fleshy haze. It's completely opaque. Also, that large pink flower near my face (placement was purely by accident) appears to be good for my complexion.
The weight and drape of this DBP is perfect for the Nottingham Top. It is very stretchy, but holds shape so that nothing droops.
Final Thoughts
I created this outfit to wear to the Bridal Brunch of my soon-to-be sister-in-law. I spent a long time in the car and ate way too much at the restaurant, but still felt good all day.
It was a cool day, so I brought my favorite spring jacket. Clearly these pieces fit right in with the colors I'm enjoying this season.
This jacket was made with a now discontinued color of stretch twill from Simply By Ti. You can still find other colors HERE. |

Now, if you'll excuse me, I have a dog who has waited oh-so-patiently for an exciting game of Fetch.
Itch to Stitch has such lovely patterns. Nice work, nice fabric choices too! You’re all set for lunch!
